On the Saturday of New Moon, it is known as Shani Amavasya. Normally, in a year, there will be two or three Shani Amavasya. On each day of Shani Amavsya some rituals are performed at Shani Shingnapur Temples. On this occasions, special worship and Telabhishek or we can say bathing the idol of God Shanidev with mustard oil are performed in order to get people deprived of all oppressions caused by God Shanidev during the Sadhe Satti which is Seven and a half years of period or Dhaiya which is two & half years of period or it’s major period. Such rituals are also useful in obtaining the kind grace of God Shanidev and getting success in various ventures. For the pilgrims who come here for 'Darshanam', their 'Stotra' will be on continuously. Almost 8 to 10 lakh people come within 24 hours to Shani shingnapur village. Because of the immense crowd, many devotees who cannot get a glimpse of the deity from the foundation are happy and content getting it from below itself.

Our ancient respected sages have very clearly said that propagation of wealth, prosperity the honour and regard as well as knowledge is caused through the grace of gods and the Saints. However, recovery to diseases and the propagation of progeny can be attained by the grace of the manes (deified ancestors). One can attain only such things through worshipping and adoration of the gods & saints, which are under their jurisdiction.

Man attains the contentment of good health and nourishment as well as propagation of progeny with the grace & blessings of his manes. At certain places, you find such stories in our ancient religious books regarding obtaining the hirer (propagation of progeny) by the grace of some saint, even that can’t be called an exception to this rule. When we reflect upon such cases where they could get a hirer by the grace of some saint or an ascetic person, we come to know that even their manes were also pleased with them, yet they had been deprived of child. Having a diseased child is not because of ‘Pitra Dosh’ but due to some other misdeed of their per-birth. When they succeeded in getting the grace of gods and saints through their worship and adoration to them, having undergone the penance, they could overcome the result of their misdeeds of the pre births.

The importance of Shani Amavasya lies in the fact that out of the rays of the Sun God, the main rays are called 'Ama'. It is from the main rays of Sun God called 'Ama' that the Sun God gives brightness to the three worlds. In this 'Ama' day, especially, God Moon stays. Therefore, it is called Shani Amavasya. This Amavasya is known to give good fruits to all religions. In 'Shradhya Karma', this carries a lot of importance.

Importance of Shani Amavasya Pooja

Shani Amavasya is being dedicated to perform ritual activities for the dead ancestors. People keep fasts for their dead ancestors to make their ancestors soul to rest in peace. On this day, worshipping to Lord Shani frees the person from all his fear in the life. According to Hindu mythology, Amavasya is considered to very inauspicious day, but if it falls on Saturday then it gives the meaning to the Amavasya by making it fortunate. Amavasya and Lord Shani both reflects for black colour, so worshipping Lord Shani brings immense joy, fortunate things and well-being in the life of their devotees. Capricorn and Aquarius zodiac signs must worship Lord Shani on this day to get his mammoth blessings as the Shani grah is the ruler planet for these zodiacs. Shani Shanti yagya is also being performed by many of the devotees to get blessed.

I received below written experience from Devotee of Shani dev about his experience in Shani Shingnapur village. Though, it was bad experience by Mr. Kinjal in Shani Shingnapur place but it’s true. Shop Keepers and Taxi Drivers are on the same boat.

Kinal– Experience in Shani Shingnapur.

Hi Braj,

I have some experience, which is really defying the faith imposed by thousands on god. My story is that while reaching Shani Shingnapur, the driver takes entire amount, i.e. (100 for each person) from Shirdi. After reaching, they show that it is mandatory to wear dhoti and take oil for men, even for entering in the temple (which is totally false). We ignored their requirement and went ahead with Darshan. Upon returning, suddenly a person crops up and orders me to get down from the car.

He was insisting me to leave the car, claiming to be the owner of the car. I told him, return my fare, i will move out, but he said that this is my car and i won't take you. You will have to speak to driver and as this is my car, i won't allow you to go in this car. The driver being also in hand and glove said that i have already paid for fueling diesel and i can not give it back.

After that guy started getting physical but i was adamant that return my fare and I will be happy to leave. After half an hour of fighting and me being adamant, the driver paid back my return fare and i left. Then, i was looking out for other taxi and found a ST bus in the depot to Shirdi. I hoped in the bus and it was good and comfortable ride, rather than squeezed in Scorpio. Thanks to god for this at least.

But, this incident really started questioning the faith of devotees, as there is no need to loot the natives and they can easily loot the devotees. May be this is the reason, when they do not need to have a door at home. It is really shameful act.

They are so shameless that they do not even care of women and children, they just think of money and nothing else. On one hand we publicize about Athiti Devo Bhava, but i think first it is necessary to protect our fellow Indians themselves before even thinking of foreigners. These types of incidents are generally common in all holy places in Maharashtra, be it Shingnapur or Asthavinayak.

Hope god is looking at all this; in fact these were my prayers after going so far, which is indeed very sad. Friends, all should come together and take this issue with the higher authorities and to take actions against them.

Hi Kinjal, Thanks to share your experience.

Friends, I request you to send me your experiences so visitors will be aware about the behaviour of taxi derivers and shop keepers. You can write me on shanidevji@gmail.com . Thanks!

Shop Keepers and Taxi Drivers are on the same boat.

I want to share my 2 times experience while visiting Shani-shingnapur. This village is an interesting village in that houses have no doors. In this village it is believe of the villagers is that their Lord Shaneshwara will protect them from all evil. This includes robbery and theft.

Okay, First we visited Shirdi Sai Baba & took taxi from there for Shingnapur. When taxi driver reached at Shingnapur he park the taxi in a compound where there were so many shops from where we could take all necessary things for worship (Pooja) and orange cloth which we have to wear to enter in temple after bath as well. Here, this is mandatory that you will have to take pooja material from these shops only; you can’t buy from the shop of your wish. You must have to pay Rs. 251 for each.

When we protest for this and asked to buy it from our wish of any shop apart from this compound, 10-15 people came and started insisting us even spoke so many hard words. Then we decided that our of 12 members only 2 members will take thaali (pooja material), they said no each of you must have to take Rs. 251 thaali from here only, even the situation had become so hot, we had no option except taking 12 thaali of Rs. 251 each. I think it happens with everyone there who comes from far away. After coming out of temple and wearing our clothes when we tried to ask the rate of this pooja material froma place nearby that compound, it was only for Rs. 51, so the question is where Rs. 200 goes. At such a Holy place where no houses have doors, Taxi drivers and shopkeepers are doing like this with visitors. How does it happen? Every one who is planning to visit there, please beware of these kinds of Taxi Drivers and shopkeepers.

Thank You,
Deepu
=================================================

Harish Kumar – Devotees experience

Hello Friend,

I have gone through your blog on many times and I always want to share my experience with shanidev with all the devotees of shanidev. Thanks a lot for giving us an opportunity to share this. Please post this experience on your blog.

Shani Dev is believed as a cruel god but it was my personal expereince that when I face the Sade satti of Shani Dev, I felt many a troubles in my life but I want to assure you all that when when I call them for my help they came in some way and helped and saved me from the troubles. Actually I commit that what we face in tenure of saade satti is nothing but is results of our good and bad Karma but still it makes you gold. Perhaps you are thinking all I am saying is just booking language or story matter, but I really face the same feelings and really Shani Dev were with me whenever I call them and really made me a gold like from Peetal. Now I understand the meaning of this line when it trues in my life.

Now I am totally changed. I Thanks lord Shani Dev that they drastically changed my life in so good manner that my nature and my way of doing any work has totally changed and a complete and well developed and now I feels proud in myself that my way of living life is totally changed and I says that they really made me like gold by lead to me facing problems. Now I pray my Shani Dev as my teacher.

I also want to tell you that there is a temple of Shani Dev in village Kosi Kalan, U.P. known as “Kokila Van as Shani Dev”, there lies huge rush on Saturday. I demanded my wish from Shani Dev and they fullfill my all the wishes without taking any time. I request all if you have a chance to go there please never let this option go. This is very powerful temple and nice place to see and properly known for Parikarma of Kokilavan. The parikarma is only for 3 kos and bandhares and langar all the day.

I request all that they pray Shani Dev by heart and go to there temple with real aastha not keeping fear in mind. Please one time call them with “sache man se” you automatically see the results.

Thanking You,
Harish Kumar.
=================================================

Ramesh Kaushal - Devotees experience

Hi Braj,

I am regular visitors of your site and would like to share my experience with shani shingnapur with all the pilgrims of shingnapur. please publish my experience of visiting shani shingnapur on your site. Thanks a lot…

I visited Shani Shignapur twice since March 2008. Undoubtedly the miracles of Shani Maharaj are beyond imagination. Shani Maharaj is known to justice in every sphere of life. In Shani Shignapur it is known that nobody steals, pilfer or ditch anybody.

But to my surprise the shopkeepers are looting the pilgrims and force them to pay as they desire just for the sake of Shani Maharaj pooja keeping no sanctity to the sacred place. There is no purity in the red cloth they provide to the gents or the water in tank to bath. I think Shani Maharaj should punish those shopkeepers first for their behavior and bad business dealings.

I sincerely recommend to the persons who visit Shani Maharaj that they should bring red colour Dhoti & mustard oil (quantity may vary on your choice 1 Kg/500 gms/250 gms) from home and take pure bath at hotel/guest house at Shirdi or other place they stay while proceeding to Shani Mandir.

Simply take any convenient shared or individual conveyance and do not get influenced by vehicle drivers, because they are in the same boat and even do not talk to the shopkeepers there at Shani Shignapur for any help. Do not take even bath there, because you are already purely taken bath earlier. Just do worship purely with pure body and mind and relax. This is my sincere advice for everybody visiting Shani Shignapur.

Regards & thanks,
Ramesh Kaushal

You can also send your experience to shanidevji@gmail.com
Braj kishor Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08237226484667878236noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3452414617447142686.post-55534786560115446482010-01-10T09:54:00.000-08:002010-01-10T10:44:32.945-08:00New Photos of Shani Shingnapur

A short story about God Shiva and Shanidev shows us the power of Shanidev.

One morning, Shanidev went to his Guru and bowed him. Lord Shiva asked to Shanidev, “What’s a problem and what can I do for you.” Shanidev said to Lord Shiva that he thinks to passing over their moon. Lord Shiva was shocked to hearing this and said to Shanidev, “O my dear Shani, Pity on me and please don’t pass over my moon.” Shani dev said, “O my lord, I am sorry, but I can’t skip this constellation, that is my duty. If I will give you compassion, then everybody will ask me for this compassion and maybe insult me. So it is not possible, I am going to gaze you within a very short time. That is the way the things have to go on. Although I am your disciple, but for now you have asked my grace.”

Listening to this word of Shanidev, Lord Shiva understood that Shani will do those things which he said, so he asked to Shani that how long Shani will be gracing him. Shani said, “My period for saade saathi is 7.5 years, so I will grace on you till 7.5 years.” But Shiva was not agreeing for this. Again Shani said, Ok, let me reside with you only for 5 years or at least for 2.5 years. But Shiva was not ready for 2.5 years, nor 7.5 months or even 7 days. Then Shanidev thought it was too much for him as his disciple to be so cruel with him, because a Guru is like a mother - always compassionate always worthy for worship, so Shani bowed down to his feet and spoke in an humble voice, "I am very pleased with you, O my Lord, so ask for any boon you wish for." Lord Shiva said to Shanidev, "O Shani, if you are pleased with me, please bestows me this boon that you will not be entering my body at all."
Shanidev said to his Guru, “If I will spare you, no one in the world will respect me and maybe insult me, still I will give you this boon. I will stay in your moon sign for only 7.5 prahar means 22.5 hours.” Lord Shiva said, “No, I think you should stay in my moon sign for 1 and ¼ prahar means 3 hours and 45 minutes.” Lord Shiva thoughts that Shanidev would not be do anything within this short period. So, Shanidev decided that I will show to my guru that what I can do within these 3 hours and 45 minutes. Lord Shiva might be unaware of shanidev ability and capabilities.

So when the time came of Shanidev’s gaze, Lord Shiva went to Gangaa River to take bath by thinking that the time will be passed in his bath and also grace period will be over. Shanidev takes the form of melon merchant and met to his guru on his way and as his shadow fell on him, his body and mind changed. Shanidev showed him two watermelons. The watermelon was one small and one big, and also showed him that how good they were by cutting a little part of them. Lord Shiva got very happy to see those juicy melons and bought them from Shanidev who was in the form of melon seller. He put them in a bag and proceeded towards the river. After taking bath, Lord Shiva filled his water pot with Gangaa’s water, picked the watermelon bag and proceeded towards town.

Previous day of this day, that city's both King's and the Prime Minister's son went for hunting. By the grace of Shanidev, they loose their way in the forest. The king was worried about his son and he send to their soldiers in the forest for searching of the princes. One of the search party went to Guru Shiva and asked him what was in his bag? Lord Shiva answered them that there are watermelons in this bag. Again soldiers asked, “Why this blood is dripping from your bag? Are you a murderer?” To hearing this word of the soldiers, Lord Shiva was shocked and looked at the bag, he also found that really blood was dripping from his bag. In the meantime those soldiers took off the bag from Shiva’s shoulder and opened it. They found that two severed heads in it. Those heads were of those of Princes and the prime ministers son’s. By the gaze of Shanidev, the watermelon had changed into the heads of those two boys.

The soldiers bound him with ropes and took him in the front of King. The king felt very sad to see the heads of those boys as well as got very angry. The king said, “He is not a Braahman, he is a murderer. So take him and put him on a stake.” All the peoples of the palace came there to see the killer of the prince and started throwing stones on Sadhu. Lord Shiva was extremely depressed at all this. So, when soldiers wanted to put him on the stake, Lord Shiva said to soldiers, “Please wait for a few minutes only, and if I am saved, I will give you 10000 silver coins.” Lord Shiva knew that Shani’s gaze will be end soon. The soldiers were agreed for this.
After a very short time, Shanidev gaze was expired. After expiring of gaze Prince and the prime minister’s son entered the palace. Seeing them alive everybody got very happy. Immediately the king sent a messenger to the soldiers that not to put the Sadhu on stake as their children were came back safe and alive. After listening to this massage, Lord shiva was taken to the palace by soldiers. The king felt very sad and also asked to Shiva for his forgiveness. Lord Shiva said, “O king, don’t worry, you are innocent. Whatever is happened with me and you, it’s all Shani’s illusion. After the discussion of king and Shiva, the king wanted to see the bag of lord Shiva and he found two watermelons in the bag. He arranged for the fragrant bath for Sadhu and seated on an Aasan and worshipped him and fed him delicious food. The king gave him new clothes and filled his bag with silver coins.

Lord Shiva left the palace. On the way God Shiva met the executioner, Shiva gave him all the coins. After that Shanidev met to Lord Shiva. Shanidev asked, “What is the experience of my gaze?” Lord Shiva said, “O shani, you are great, only 3 hours and 45 minutes gaze shattered my bones, what would be happened if you had stayed with me for 7 and ½ years? Taday I am agree that you are most terrible planet. I can bear all this things but today you promised me that you will not trouble anyone else like this in future.” Shanidev said, “O my lord, I am sorry for that, but I just wanted to show you my power. Now please pardon this child of yours, and I promised that I shall never offend you in this way again." After saying this word and bowing down to lord Shiva, Shanidev went back to his Shanilok.

After this story, it is concluded that Shanidev is the powerful god and good judge.
Braj kishor Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08237226484667878236noreply@blogger.com20tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3452414617447142686.post-23120553681060727422009-02-05T08:30:00.000-08:002009-02-05T08:41:23.807-08:00Shanidev fast story
In our Hindu society, it is believed that many problems which we faced in our general life are caused due to the displeasure of Shanidev. A short story given below demonstrates the need to keep Sahnidev propitiated.

There was a small village. In this village, lived a poor Brahmin with his family. He had three daughters-in-law. During the rainy season, Brahmin used to get up early in morning, have his Breakfast and leave for the farm. As a routine, he had given the house-hold responsibilities to the youngest daughter-in-law. It was Shravan (5th month as per hindu calendar) month. On the first Saturday of the month, Brahmin told to his youngest daughter-in-law that today is Saturday, go upstairs, take some food grains and grind them to prepare the roties and kenakurdu vegetables. She followed the instructions. She went to upstairs but she found that there were not an enough grains to prepared roti. She prepared the food whatever the grains and waited for her father-in-law.

After a very short time, God Shanidev appeared in front of the lady in the form of a leper and requested to the lady that his entire body is aching, so please apply oil and bathe him with hot water and thereafter give him some food to eat. The lady had sympathy for him. She applied oil and bathed him with hot water, after that she gave him the food and thus quenched his hunger and thirst. When leper was going, he blessed her that she will never fell short of anything in the life. After some time, the father-in-law came home and saw an excellent preparation of food and happily wondered as to how this happened when there was very little in the home.

On the next Saturday, the Brahmin told the second daughter-in-law to be at home and left for the farm. As like first time, again shanidev appeared in the guise of a leper and requested to the second daughter-in-law to bathe and to serve the some food, but this young lady told him that there was nothing in the house to offer him. Shanidev became angry with her answer and cursed her and said, “Whatever you have would vanish”. Saying this word shanidev left home. The lady went up and found that there was nothing in the pots. The father-in-law came back home and she informed him that there is nothing for the supper. They scolded her. Then she narrated the whole story of leper.

On the third Saturday, the Brahmin said to the third daughter-in-law to manage the home and preparation of food. As usual, again shanidev appeared in disguise and requested the young lady to serve, but the lady followed the suit of the second one with a negative approach. The result was the same as second daughter-in-law. The lady was very sad for the incident. Again on the fourth Saturday, the Brahmin had given responsibility of house to the youngest daughter-in-law and left for the field. As usual God shani dev again came in the guise of a leper and requested to serve. The lady heartily bathed him and gave the food to his satisfaction. Shani dev became happy and blessed her that all her desires would be fulfilled and she will remain happy in her whole life. After blessing to her, Shanidev has vanished. After that the lady went up again and found ample food grains etc. She cooked a sumptuous supper for the whole family. The Brahmin families were happy to have the food and asked her that from where she got all the grocery. The lady told them all the story of the leper. Listening to story, they were quite happy.

As suddenly the Brahmin found a bundle of Patravali (A leaf in which the food was served). He opened the bundle and got diamonds and pearls in it. He enquired of other daughter-in-law about the leper, they informed that the leper had come to them twice but they did not give him anything. The leper got angry and after that everything vanished from house. The Brahmin advised them to keep fast on Saturday and helped to needy people. He also offered prayers to Shanidev and asked blessing for all his family.
Braj kishor Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08237226484667878236noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3452414617447142686.post-45773667295136235832009-01-22T08:07:00.000-08:002009-01-22T08:47:29.974-08:00shani dev song in video
With the grace of shanidev, from the last few months I am observing that the visitors required shanidev song in video. So, I am posting this post on my blog. It was my first visiting to Shani Shingnapur village. My brother had known every thing about Shani Shingnapur. So, we decided that we will go to Shingnapur village on bike. The Shingnapur village is situated at Ahmednagar district in the state of Maharashtra. Shingnapur village is about 170km from my city town Nashik. We started our journey at 6.30 am from our home. It was interesting journey for me on bike. The Shirdi temple is situated in the route of Shingnapur. So, we decided that firstly we take darshan of Sai Baba in Shirdi. We reached Shirdi at 9.15 AM. In the Shirdi, we spent 3 hours in queue. Shirdi temple is a very big temple of India. It is famous in all over India and abroad too. After taking a darshan and Prasad of Shirdiwale Sai Baba, We continued to our journey to Shingnapur. We were feeling better because of Shirdi rest.
The road of Shingnapur was very good that’s why we had not faced any problem with bike. We reached Ghodegaon which is situated at Ahmednagar- Aurangabad highway. Shingnapur village is just 6 km away from Ghodegaon. I and my brother were thirsty and we were searching hotel for water but we saw only sugarcane juice seller was there with one bull. So, we drank sugarcane juice. The juice was fresh and very testy. The whole area of Shingnapur is covered with sugarcane fields and the local farmers yoke bulls to the mill, like a wheels to crush the sugarcane and produce juice.
After a very short time we entered the Shani Shingnapur campus. When we entered in the shingnapur campus, I shocked to see that there was a school, and that school have no door. I was never come to Shani Shingnapur only heard about the shingnapur village that houses have no door but at that time I saw the reality of Shani Shingnapur. My brother stopped bike at one pooja material shop. The shopkeeper said, “You can park your bike in front of my shop and I will also give you dhotis and water for bath because cloths is not allowed in the temple.” I and my brother had a pure bath and wore the dhotis which were provided by shopkeeper. After a pure bath we purchased pooja items and oil from shop. The shopkeeper also suggest us that how to worship of god Shanidev in the foundation and most important that don’t touch any ladies before worship. There is a short walkway from the shop to Shani temple. When we entered the foundation, there were very crowd. But the system was good that every body could take darshan easily.
After taking darshan we came back to the shop. We saw that the houses have no any door and window even shop also. After paying his money for Pooja items and oil, we started back on our return journey. When we were returning, we took a dinner at a small hotel. I was fear on the highway when big trucks overtaking us and focused light. Finally we reached home at 10.00 pm. really this is very interesting journey for me and I will always remember this journey.

Before writing on Shani dev, I didn’t know anything about Shani dev, about his power and his good nature. That time I had knew that Shani dev is a very angry god and he gives troubles to the people. But when I visited to Shani Shingnapur, I understand that who is Shani dev and how is his nature with people. Recently one TV serial also started on Shani dev. The aim of serial is to bring to light the greatness of God Shanidev. This TV serial was launched by NDTV Imagine. I think people should visit Shani Shingnapur at least one time throughout the life.
Braj kishor Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08237226484667878236noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3452414617447142686.post-35643706896557179512008-10-19T23:01:00.001-07:002008-10-19T23:16:45.380-07:00History of Idol in Shingnapur In Shani-Shingnapur village, the god is self-appeared idol. God appeared in form of black stone with a height of 5 feet and 9 inches & 1 feet and 6 inches in the width. He is standing on platform without any roof.

It is believed that, 250 years ago, in Shingnapur village it rained so heavily and incessantly that all the houses and fields were submerged by flowing water. The Shani idol came flowing along with the flood waters and got stuck in the branches of the neighboring berry tree. After the reducing of flood water when cowherds went near Panas Nala, they saw the big stone boulder in the branches of tree. They were surprise to see it. With the lot of hesitation, they poked the idol with their sticks and stone started bleeding. The cowherds saw this injury. With the scared, they ran away. They came back to the village and told their elders about what they saw. Listening to all this, villagers went to that spot where the stone was found. They were also shocked to see it. They could not decide what to do of this stone. At last they all returned to their homes by deciding that they would think tomorrow on this.

In the same night, when all villagers fell asleep, God Shani dev appeared before one villager in dream and said, “I am Shanidev. Whatever you & your villagers saw yesterday is true. Let me from that place and install me in the village.” On the next day, devotee told the villagers what he heard in the dream. Listening to this entire, villagers went to that place where stone was found. They tried to lift idol but they could not succeed. They tried all day but they could not move a bit. At last people returned back to their homes. In the night when villagers were sleeping, again god Shanidev appeared in front of same devotee in dream & said, “I will move from that place only when the people who move me from there are of the real relation of maternal uncle and nephew.”

Next morning devotee told the villager about his dream. And villagers did according to the dream. At that time many people tried to their best to install the idol in their own field, but the idol would not budge from there at all. At last the statue placed where it stands today in open ground. At that time, there was no any foundation. Foundation was made after very long time. Shri Jawahar Mal was made this foundation.

Shri Jawahar Mal was the rich man in sonai village (Near by Shingnapur village). He had no any child. So, he prayed to Shani dev that if he got son, he would erect a beautiful foundation there. And by the grace of God shanidev he got a son and he erected a good foundation in Shingnapur & one platform for God Shani dev.

Now a day, all the activity of Shani Shingnapur foundation is handled by Shri Shaneshwar Devasthan Trust.

Braj kishor Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08237226484667878236noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3452414617447142686.post-71236695958505301242008-10-16T07:56:00.001-07:002008-10-16T08:05:04.682-07:00Story of great devotee Udasi Baba In India there are innumerable number of Sants, Mahatma, Sadhu born and contributed to the entire world their good thoughts and works. In Shingnapur village, Udasi Baba was the great devotee of God shani dev. He was the person who started puja, abhiskekh, etc. of shanidev in Shingnapur Village. The Samadhi of udasi maharaj is situated opposite to Shri laxmi mandir.Udasi baba spent his whole life in the service of God shani dev and his devotees. And when he was 87 years old, he left this world and got Mukti. The life story of Udasi maharaj is interesting.

One Sanyasi was suffering from disease due to the wrath or curse of shanidev. So, he came to Shingnapur village from Bode Goan village as bala sanyasi. In those days there was no one to perform any pooja, abhishekh, archana and prayers to shanidev completely. In the early morning, he used to bring water of Panasa nala or well nearby the shani’s platform for clean the idol, Get flowers and fruits from nearby forest, etc. After collecting all the puja material, he performed puja with all ritual. After that, he used to go round the Shingnapur village for propagate Shani dev Mahima to the people. In the evening after returning to village he would again perform pooja, archana, and just nearby the shanidev’s platform to sleep. This was the daily routine work of Sanyasi. His routine work was going on, in this way his disease was cured without any other medicine or by a medical attendant. All this was happen with grace of shani dev.

After a very long time, sanyasi felt to return back to his own village Bode Goan. When he was preparing to go back, all the villagers requested him not to live. Hearing their request, Sanyasi was in dilemma. He prayed to shani dev that show me the proper way & he went to sleep. In the early morning God shanidev appeared before him in dreams and said,” hay sanyasi, I am so happy because of your service to me & my devotees. So you don’t go anywhere and continue your pooja & propagate my mahima in the surrounding villages of Shingnapur. I will grace you mukti in the end.” and thereafter Bhagawan Shani Dev disappeared.

After that Sanyasi decided that he will not go anywhere. He stayed Shingnapur village & will give service to Shanidev & his devotees. Everyday he used to perform pooja, Archana & tour to all nearby villages for propagate of shanidev mahima. Like this time passed on. Now he became famous for his devoted of shanidev. People donated thing for his comfort but he never accept much more except basic needs. In his whole life, he never built house for himself & nor did he keep any kind of property.

He was not having any ambition in his life except service of shanidev. That’s why people called him “Udasi Baba” or “Udasi Maharaj.” As a respect people also called him “Pujari Baba” or “Swamiji”. When he was 87 years old, he left this world and got Mukti. He was very good man. He gave his entire life in the service of shanidev & his devotees. In the premises of Shingnapur village & nearby village people have respect, love and bhakthi toward Udasi Baba. In the respect of udasi Baba People built his Samadhi opposite to shanidev platform.

Today also people follow ritual of performing puja of shani dev which was started by Udasi Baba. Only men can perform the puja but after pure bath & with wet cloth. Women are not allowed to this ritual. They can take darshan below the shani’s platform.Braj kishor Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08237226484667878236noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3452414617447142686.post-49338672574348277582008-10-16T07:26:00.002-07:002008-10-16T07:56:06.611-07:00Shrine of Shanidev in IndiaShrine of Shanidev in India: In India there are many shrine of Shani dev. This temple is situated at Kosi Kalan, near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh (India). It is believed that Kokilavan Dham is the place where Lord Shri Krishna gave darshan to Shani Dev. This temple is visited by many devotees on Saturday. There is an interesting story about Shani Dev and God Krishna.

When God Krishna was born all god visited to Nandgaon. God Shani was also one of them. Everyone was allowed to take Darshan of God Krishna but not Shanidev. When Shani dev was going to take Darshan of Krishna then Yashoda stopped him at the door and said,” You can’t see my baby because your name is fearful. If my baby sees you, he will be frightened.”

Hearing this Word of Yashoda, Shani Dev felt disappointed and went to nearby forest and started penance. After a short time God Krishna appeared before him in the forest and asked him, “What is the problem. Why you are in forest?” Shani dev replied, “O God! Please tell me one thing, when I am doing my duty to punish people according to their work (Karma). Then why people think about me that I am malignant and cruel. Why people think that Shani dev creates trouble only. Why do they avoid even my shadow? Today also when all god could enjoy the bliss of your Darshan, I am denied that right and benediction."

God Krishna advised Shanidev to stay put near Nandanvan. He also granted him the boon that whoever came to his temple to pray would immediately be freed from all worries and afflictions.
At last, God Krishna visited the temple and began playing the divine flute. Hearing the sound of flute, the Gopis arrived but Krishna turned himself in the form of a Cuckoo (Koyal in Hindi).

That place of the forest where Krishna appeared before Shanidev, has since been called “Kokilavan”. Now it is famous for “Kokilavan Shanidham”.
Braj kishor Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08237226484667878236noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3452414617447142686.post-13432027110297356222008-10-15T09:27:00.000-07:002008-10-15T10:01:21.514-07:00Why people offer oil to appease Shani dev

In our Hindus society, it is habitual to bath Shani dev in mustard Oil. Many people also raised this question that why people offer oil to Shani dev. There is a short story behind this.

As per Hindu Epic Ramayana, when the bridge was constructed from Rameswaram to Lanka by Ram’s army, Hanumanji had the responsibility of looking after the security of bridge lest the enemy damage it. One day Hanumanji sat under the trees and offering prayer to God Rama. God Shanidev went there and said to Hanumanji, “I am the powerful god Shani dev. I heard you are also so powerful, so I want to test your might with me. Open your eyes and fight with me.”

In response to shanidev, Hanumanji opened his eyes & said “Now I am meditating upon my lord. I request you don’t disturb me in my prayer & leave me alone.” But God Shani dev was stable on picking a fight. At the same time, hanumanji stretched out his tail and started binding it around Shani dev. slowly he tightened the coiled tail. God Shani dev tried to free himself but he could not. Hanumanji moved his tail up & down hitting him against the stone of bridge. Shanidev started bleeding.

When the pain was unbearable, God Shani requested to him, “Release me. I will never do a similar mistake again.” Hanumanji replied, “If you promise me that you shall never afflict Ram’s devotees then I will let you go” In the great pain shanidev promised to Hanumanji, “I will do as you say, I will never interfere in the destiny of those devoted to you & Ram.”

When shanidev became free, He asked to Hanuman, “Could you give me some oil to relieve my wretched pain.” Then Hanuman gave the oil to Shanidev, after the spread of oil on his body, his pain was relieved immediately.

Since then it is customary to offer oil to Shanidev. It is symbolic of soothing his pain. He feels satisfied and this makes him benevolent towards the devotee.Braj kishor Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08237226484667878236noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3452414617447142686.post-39973638327741493392008-10-13T05:30:00.001-07:002008-10-14T10:16:26.412-07:00Four Legends of Shani ShingnapurShani Shingnapur village is famous in all over India due to Shani Dev. There is God, but no temple :
God Shanidev does not want to live in the Shade of anything. We can see that in Shani- Shingnapur village. There is no roof above the divine idol of God Shani dev. God Shani is omnipresent here. Whether it is a time of rain, sun, cold or storm, without a roof, God Shani stands here all the time and protects the people and visitors of Shingnapur. Many time people tried to make roof at this place but they could not succeed. This place of worship is open all the time. I think this is only a religious place in India which has no roof.
In Shani Shingnapur, We can see the power of God but we can’t see the Temple. So people say
that “There is God but no temple”.

2. There is a home, but no door :
Home is one of the primary needs of human being. In all over world, Home is necessary for our happiness and prosperity. We also install a door to such house and sleep without care. But in Shingnapur village, we can see totally different. There are homes but no door. I think this is only a place not in India but all over the world where houses have no doors & window. In Shingnapur Village, people are also very good. By the grace of God Shanidev nobody installs doors & windows to their houses. Whenever anybody tried to install a door in his houses, he did not succeed & he faced some loss or problem. So in Shingnapur area, houses have no doors & window.

3. There is a tree, but no shade :
When we hear this legend we do not believe on this but it is true that in the north side of God Shani’s idol, there was a neem tree. But unfortunately we can’t see this tree because this was pulled down 14 to 15 years back. Many devotees & villagers of this village say that when the branches of this tree would grow as long as to come over the idol. With the effect of Shanidev Branches would get burnt to ashes. The shade of tree never came on the idol. So, people say that there is a tree nearby the Shanidev but no shade.

4. There is fear, but no enemy :
In our society, people fear from Hindu God Shani Dev because they don’t know anything about his good nature. I think, Shanidev is not our enemy but our friends. He helps to the people for their good work & punishes them for their wrong work. Then he is a justice.
Based on experiences of many Devotees we can say that Shanidev is not our enemy but our friend.
Braj kishor Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08237226484667878236noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3452414617447142686.post-62814827487984229422008-10-11T11:42:00.000-07:002008-10-20T01:55:11.470-07:00Story of Shanidev and King Vikramaditya
The name "King Vikramaditya" has been assumed by many kings in Indian history. Vikramaditya was the king of Ujjaini. He was famous for his wisdom, valour and magnanimity. Due to his great power he had became “emperor”. Madenlekha (Queen of Ujjaini) was the wife of Vikramaditya. He had two children Adityavardhan & Manjili.

The seven god of the week are the Sun (Surya dev), Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Mercury, Venus and Saturn (Shani dev). Once upon a time, the seven god of the week, were in meeting. Rahu and Ketu are also there. Rahu & Ketu put one question in front of them. The question was “who is the powerful god among us?” They could not decide on this matter. So, they went to Devraj Indra for his adjudication. God Devraj Indra thought if he gave decision in favour of any one god then other will be unsatisfied with me. He told them that respected gods, I am also like you so, how can I decide that who is great & I can’t give an impartial judgment. So, better thing for all of you go to the planet earth. There is King Vikramaditya. He is very good justice on all over the earth. Hearing this entire thing at last all God went to King Vikramaditya.

When all gods came to King Vikramaditya then king gave big respect to them and begged for any king of service. They told him about their problem. It was very difficult task for Vikramaditya. But he was dutiful king so, he accepted this challenge gracefully. After thinking on this, He arranged seven thrones. These thrones were made from Gold, Bronze, Brass, Tin, Zinc, Mica, & iron respectively. The thrones were put by numbers. The Gold throne was put at number one & the iron throne was at the last. Then King Vikramaditya requested to seven gods for grace the throne of their own selection. God Surya (Sun) was in the gold chair while God Shani selected the iron chair.

When the seven gods had sat in the chair of their own selection, Vikramaditya said, “Now according to the order of your throne you may decide your own rank & none can thrust my judgment upon you.” Hearing to this, God Shani (Saturn) stood up & said to King Vikramaditya, “You ranked me the lowest among these gods. You don’t know my power. Sun can stay on a Zodiac (Rashi) for One to Two months, Marsh for half and one month, Jupiter for maximum thirteen months, Mercury and Venus for one month only. Rahu & Ketu for eighteen months. But only me who can reign a Zodiac from two and half years to seven and half years. This period is called as “sade sathi”. Due to this sade saathi period powerful god also trembled. When I was angry on Rama then he got banishment instead of throne. Now be prepared because it’s your turn.” Saying all this God shani went back.

After a very short time, the “Sade Sathi” period was occupies by Shanidev on Zodiac of Vikramaditya. From here, king’s sade sathi period began which was for seven & half year. Shani dev went to Vikramaditya’s kingdom as a horse-seller & he had very attractive horses. People were also praise of those horses. When King Vikramaditya heard about the strange horses, he sent to Ashawapal to buy a best horse for him & when Ashawapal came with one attractive horse, then king was so pleased to see the horse that he could not stop himself for riding on this horse. But, when he was riding on horse, the horse disappeared in the air with a great speed. After a few second king was in deep and thick forest. He had very tired. Due to out of his kingdom, King Vikramaditya faced many problems. These entire problems were created by God Shani dev.

At the palace of Ujjaini, Queen Madenlekha was worried about King Vikramaditya. Queen Madenlekha was the devotee of Shani Dev. So, she requested to Shani dev to save her husband. Due to the Prayer of Queen Madenlekha, Shanidev promised that I will save your husband but he has to endure for his work (Karma).

King Vikramaditya was out of from his kingdom so, no body was introducing him. At last Vikramaditya reached a nearby city and in the city he met a respectable businessman. This businessman also not introduced Vikramaditya. King was looking like a beggar. With the sympathy, the businessmen took him to his home and arranged food for him. On that day businessman earned more profit due to the grace of Shani dev. But, he thought that this man (King) is lucky for him. Thinking this he kept him to his house for work.

The king was enduring his Sade Sathi period. He was living in the Businessman’s home by changed name. After some days, there was a marriage of Businessman’s daughter. In this marriage Vikramaditya was the responsible person. He went to the market with businessmen’s another daughter for purchasing of Marriage’s material. In the market, Vikramaditya met to shanidev who was in disguise. Shanidev gave a picture of duck to Vikramaditya.

The marriage arrangement was going on properly. Suddenly, the marriage’s necklace of bride had lost. The necklace was swallowed by the duck which was in picture. Businessmen’s wife asked to king about necklace but King could not explain anything to her. She thought that king is thief and she arrested him by the soldier of king Chandrasen.

King Chandrasen was the enemy of King Vikramaditya. Looked to Vikramaditya, King Chandrasen was very happy. He ordered to their soldiers that King Vikramaditya’s hands and feet be cut with one stroke of a sward. Listening to this order Vikramaditya cried out. But, Soldiers cuts the hand & feet of him.

Now, The King was without hand and feet. He was dallying like Beggar. An “Oil seed Crusher (Teli)” was looking him and he felt pity on him. He took him to his house and arranged food for him. He also dressed the king’s wounds and after some days, Teli made him capable of driving the bullocks around the grinding machine. Now, Vikramaditya can do his work properly. Like this time passed on. The Sade Sathi period was about to be over.

One night, the king was alone in his work. He was singing song. The voice was sweet. His voice was breaking the silence of the night. In the nearest kingdom, one princess heard the song & she got fascinated towards the singer (Vikramaditya). Princess called to her personal attendant and sent him to know about the singer. After some time, the attendant came back and he told to princess that the singer was servant of “Teli” and he is handicapped. Listening to this thing, Princess decided that she would marry with that singer otherwise she would remain unmarried throughout her life. When princess parents heard about this decision they resented on princess. But, ultimately they were ready for that decision.

The King (father of princess) went to the Teli with the proposal of Marriage. The king said to Teli, “Arrange for the marriage of this handicapped person, my daughter wants to marry with this man.” Teli did not believe on king but at the final teli became ready for marriage.

Marriage of Princess and handicapped Vikramaditya was over. But princess parents were not happy. At the mid-night of honeymoon King Vikramaditya had a small nap. God Shani dev visited to the King’s dream and said, “King Vikramaditya, you ranked me the lowest among the gods. All this happened with you this is effect of my sight. You have undergone enough sufferings for your misjudgment. But now your Sade Sathi period has over.” Hearing this news king became happy and he requested to Shani dev “Do not inflict such suffering in future on anyone like me. The God accepted the king’s request and disappeared.

After the disappeared of shanidev when King Vikramaditya opened his eyes, he became surprise to see that his hands and feet in proper shape. The princess & her family member were also so much happy to see this. But when they knew about the reality of handicapped person that he is King Vikramaditya, king (princess father) was overwhelmed with joy and praised his stars.

This news reached immediately in all area & nearest area. The businessman also got this news and felt guilty to his behavior with Vikramaditya. He went to Vikramaditya & requested him, “Excuse me for my wrong behavior with you.” And he also invited him for dinner. King Vikramaditya accepted his request & next day he went to businessman’s house for dinner. In the house of businessman, King Vikramaditya said, “I shall dine in the same room where the necklace had lost.” Without asking any question, the businessman arranged the dinner in that room. When the Vikramaditya were dining, he saw to his great surprise that the invaluable necklace was emerging from the same duck which was in picture. This Imaging thing was seen by all the people who were present in that house. The businessman was so much overwhelmed with joy and he too decided to marry off his daughter to Vikramaditya.

After some days, King Vikramaditya returned to his Kingdom. Queen Madenlekha became so much happy to see Vikramaditya has returned to his kingdom. On the next day in the court, The King Vikramaditya said to his courtiers to make a proclamation by the beat of drum that God Shani is also powerful like other God and so, they should keep fast on Saturday as a mark of honor of God Shani dev. After that in the kingdom of King Vikramaditya, there was arrangement of worship of Shani dev at every Saturday. Now, Vikramaditya & his two queens were live happily.

Braj kishor Singhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08237226484667878236noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3452414617447142686.post-71672809485253662172008-10-11T10:36:00.000-07:002008-10-14T10:36:03.939-07:00Story of God Shani Dev and HanumanjiGod Hanuman is the incarnation of Lord Shiva. Surya dev is also the Guru (Teacher) of Hanumanji. After the completion of course, Surya dev said to Hanuman, “You have become adept in all forms of wisdom and weapons, now go to your mother Anjani” But Hanumanji requested to Surya dev “Give me an opportunity to repay for your tutelage” Suryadev said to Hanuman, “my wayward son shani is the cause of my sorrow only, Go and bring that wayward son of mine back to me”. Listening to the order of Surya dev, Hanuman went to Shanilok. When he was going to shanilok many planets tried to stop him but they were unable.
When Shanidev saw hanuman he asked to him, “Who are you? Why are you come here? Do you not fear with die?” Hanumanji replied, “I am Hanuman, The disciple of Lord Surya. Lord Shani you have all power & virtues, but your greatest drawback is disobeying your father. It’s not good & it’s the greatest sin. I have come here to take you to your father.” Hearing all this Shani became angry & said, “You don’t know my power, Powerful god also trembled with my power so better thing for you go back immediately otherwise I will burn you” Hanuman replied, “I have not came here to go back”. Then Shani Dev crooked gaze on Hanuman but shanidev could not burn him so, Shanidev sat on his head. They were inside a room. Immediately Hanuman increased his size because of which shani pressed between hanuman and the ceiling. When the pain was unbearable, Shani requested to God Hanuman to release him. When shanidev became free from Hanuman then shanidev Promised to Hanuman, “Anyone who will worship you on Saturday, I will never be terminate them.” After that shanidev & hanumanji went to Suryadev.
